Do I need a wedding coordinator for a destination wedding in Portugal?

Are you based in Portugal?
I'm currently based in the US and relocating to Lisbon in September 2026. Most services are available right now and can be done remotely, from anywhere.
On-the-ground venue scouting, in-person vendor meetings, and day-of coordination in Portugal are available from September 2026 onward. If your wedding is in late 2026 or 2027, the timing works perfectly.
How much does wedding coordination in Portugal cost?

What exactly does “on the ground” in Portugal mean for my wedding?
It means I'm physically there — not advising from the US. From September 2026, I'm based in Lisbon. That means I can visit the venues on your shortlist and report back honestly before you commit. I can meet vendors in person and assess how they actually communicate. I can walk your venue the week before your wedding, confirm every setup detail, and be the point of contact for every vendor on your wedding day.
No guide, no remote consultation, and no US-based planner can replicate what comes from actually being in the country — seeing the spaces, building the relationships, and being there when it counts.
How quickly do you respond to inquiries and messages?
All inquiries are answered within 24–48 hours. Retainer clients have WhatsApp access Monday–Friday for questions between calls. For general inquiries, email is always the fastest route.
Response time is a commitment, not a guideline. One of the most common frustrations couples have with Portugal-based vendors is slow communication across time zones. That's not how I work.

What’s the difference between the à la carte services and the concierge retainer?
À la carte is for one specific problem like a venue you need researched, a vendor category you need shortlisted, a contract you need reviewed. You pay for that one deliverable and you're done. No commitment, no ongoing relationship.
The Monthly Planning Concierge is for couples who want a sustained planning partner throughout the full journey—monthly planning calls, vendor research, WhatsApp access, and a professional who keeps the planning moving month after month.
Use à la carte if you have one specific problem to solve. Use the concierge if you want someone consistently in your corner for 6–18 months.
Can I get legally married in Portugal as a foreigner?
Yes. Portugal welcomes international couples and there are no residency requirements to marry legally there. The process involves specific documents — apostilled birth certificates, a Certificate of No Impediment, certified Portuguese translations — submitted to the Civil Registry (Conservatória) in your wedding city. The process takes 4–6 weeks for approval once documents are submitted and must be started 9–12 months before your wedding date.
Alternatively, many international couples choose a symbolic ceremony in Portugal with their legal marriage handled at home. This means simpler paperwork and complete venue freedom.
What happens if I need help with a wedding outside of Lisbon — Porto, the Algarve, Sintra, or the Douro Valley?
All research services like Planning Audits, Venue Intel Reports, and Vendor Shortlist Reports are fully remote and available for weddings anywhere in Portugal regardless of location.
On-the-ground services including Venue Scouting Days and day-of coordination are based out of Lisbon. Weddings in Porto, the Algarve, the Douro Valley, or other regions are available with a travel surcharge for accommodation and transportation.
The Last-Minute Coordination Support and the Coordination Package are also available outside Lisbon with the same travel surcharge. Most destinations across Portugal are workable.
Is this full wedding planning?
No, and that's intentional! Full planners design your wedding from scratch, source the creative vision, and manage everything on your behalf. That's not what this is.
I handle the research, logistics, vendor vetting, contract review, and on-the-ground coordination, while you stay in control of every creative decision and every final approval. What if I’m more than 12 months out from my wedding?
That's actually the ideal time to start. Couples who begin early have more options, less pressure, and better results.
At 12+ months out, the Monthly Planning Concierge is the right fit — sustained monthly support throughout the full planning journey. As your wedding approaches and the work intensifies, you can add specific à la carte services as needed. The Portugal Wedding Coordination Package picks up in the final 3–8 months when you're ready for focused execution support through the wedding day.
Does the 3-month concierge minimum mean we only work together for 3 months?
No. The 3-month minimum is the starting commitment, not the total duration. After that, the engagement continues month-to-month. Most couples work together for 6–12 months, with the planning evolving in intensity as the wedding approaches.
You can upgrade, pause, or end with 30 days' notice at any point after the initial commitment. There's no penalty for finishing early and no pressure to continue longer than you need

If I found a venue coordinator at my venue. Do I still need a wedding coordinator?
Almost certainly yes. This is one of the most important things to understand before your wedding day.
Your venue coordinator works for the venue. Their job is to make sure the venue's operations run smoothly—catering, setup of the venue's own spaces and staff, and the logistics the venue controls. They are not responsible for managing your photographer, florist, DJ, transport, guest arrivals, or personal timeline. When something goes wrong with a vendor the venue didn't supply, the venue coordinator is not your point of contact.
A wedding coordinator works entirely for you. Every vendor, every timeline, every contingency is managed in your interest. On your wedding day, you have one professional point of contact.
